Over recent years, casinos throughout the UK have noticed a significant decline in the game of craps. After talking to a variety of gamblers, they found the game to be considered crude.
Recently, the Aspers Casino in Stratford announced that it would be rebranding the game of craps to “dice.” The game uses the same tables and the betting process is the same. Players still have the choice of using the pass or don’t pass line and all of the other rules are the same.
The signage, however, has changed drastically. Nowhere in the casino is mention of the word craps. Instead, players can learn how to play the game of dice and there are even free classes provided on the casino floor throughout the day, where croupiers will teach the game.
Learning how to play the game of craps or dice properly is something that all gamblers should do. Listening to the chaos around the craps table is enough to send anyone running to find out what is going on. Knowing how to place a bet allows a person to become the shooter – which is the person who is responsible for throwing the dice down the length of the table.
Aspers wasn’t the only casino in the area to make the switch. The Hippodrome debuted their dice tables on September 16. Now, any player who wants to play the game of craps in the United Kingdom will need to look for signage that reads “dice” instead of “craps.”
Since many people felt that the name was too dodgy, the casinos have decided that a rebranding was necessary. Casinos around the United Kingdom that have already made the switch have reported positive results. The tables are fuller than they have been in years – and all of the casinos attribute the higher volume to the name change.
The game may be the same, but the name and the signage have changed. Global gamblers are used to seeing the name craps – and this will take a bit of an adjustment for those who decide to step into a casino in the United Kingdom.
